 Biography

Alex Klas was born in 1959 in the Ukraine. From a young age, he showed great talent in the art of painting and sculpture. As a young student he presented his art in numerous exhibitions. He also designed several exhibitions for the Vladimir City government. In 1979 he graduated from the School of Art of the city of Vladimir, achieving master class status. During his study at the Vladimir School, his paintings were included in prestigious regional exhibitions. He also learned the art of Mosaic in the city of Odessa.

Since he was eighteen years old, he was a member of the Soviet Youth Artist’s Organization. He studied under Soviet National Prize Laureate Academic Boris Frantsusov, who was the president of the Vladimir Youth Artist’s Organization, and secretary of the Soviet Artist’s Union. Alex was specially selected by Frantsusov to study alongside him.

He participated in many exhibitions and worked in design, fine art, illustration, graphics, engraving, sculpture, miniature, large-scale fine art and mosaic. He has extensive experience in restoration of many different types of media.

He mentored students to great success in fine art. He formed his own unique style due to the influence of working with two different schools (the Vladimir Landscape School, and Zverev’s school). His creative style is Expressionism.

Since the late 1980’s, his paintings have been part of numerous private collections in the United States and France. He has twice had exhibitions in the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

When he came to California in the year 2001, the highly landscaped nature and expansive ocean views inspired him to create many new series of paintings with a special flavor.
